If a character has a talent aquired through versatility or learned as a skill, and then aquires access to that talent through her discipline (or second discipline), the new talent is advanced at a reduced cost (one-quarter for versatilty talents or one half for skills) until its rank matches the old talent or skill. Until the ranks match, the talent counts as the average of the old and new ranks, and the character gains no benefits for having learned the talent from her discipline. Once the ranks match, the versatility slot is freed and the talent counts as normal for the discipline. If the talent was known as a skill, the skill may still be used but at one-half rank.
